Cyberpunk 2077 Surprise Update Themed After Edgerunners Season 2 Announced

CD Projekt has announced a surprise update for Cyberpunk 2077, scheduled for release this week. Titled the "Edgerunners 2 Update," version 2.5 is themed around the second season of the Netflix animated series, which launches today.

While specific details remain scarce, CD Projekt confirmed via social media that the update will introduce "new items and features, including content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2!" The developer stated that update 2.5 will be available on October 22, 2026, offering another chance to explore Night City or experience it for the first time. The announcement has fueled fan speculation, with many hoping for more than just cosmetic additions, potentially including new quests or substantial DLC content.

Associate game director Paweł Sasko teased the update, stating, "So f***ing hyped about what we cooked for you." Further details are expected to be revealed on October 21, 2026, during a special episode of REDstreams, with patch notes to be published on the same day. The free update will launch simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release to follow.

This news comes after CD Projekt previously stated in May that it had "no plans" for further Cyberpunk 2077 DLCs or expansions, suggesting that future content would arrive with Cyberpunk 2. The upcoming sequel is not anticipated before 2030.

Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 40 million copies since its December 2020 launch. Its sole expansion to date, Phantom Liberty, was released in 2023 and featured Idris Elba. This unexpected update appears to contradict the earlier statements about future content, sparking renewed interest among players.

For those awaiting the update, IGN's review of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is available for further context.
