CD Projekt Red has announced Update 2.5 for Cyberpunk 2077, a significant patch scheduled to launch on October 22 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This update coincides with the second season of the popular anime spin-off, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and will incorporate new items and features inspired by the series.
According to a social media post from the developer, the update will include "new items and features" specifically drawn from the anime's second season. Among the anticipated additions are enhancements to cyberware customization and the introduction of a new dual-wielding playstyle. Cyberpunk 2 associate game director Pawel Sasko expressed considerable enthusiasm for the update, suggesting that players can expect substantial new content.
Update 2.5 arrives as Cyberpunk 2077 approaches its sixth anniversary. The game has undergone a significant transformation since its initial launch, which was marred by numerous technical issues. Through a series of post-launch patches and updates, CD Projekt Red has markedly improved the game's stability and performance. The release of the critically acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion and a subsequent PS5 Pro patch have further refined the experience on current-generation hardware.
The Edgerunners anime has played a crucial role in revitalizing interest in Cyberpunk 2077 since its debut in 2022. CD Projekt Red previously celebrated the anime's success with an update that added Edgerunners-themed cosmetics. The game has continued to be a strong commercial performer, surpassing 40 million copies sold as of July 3, 2026. Meanwhile, development on its sequel, Cyberpunk 2, is ongoing.
