A 2.5D brawler game set in the Cyberpunk universe, inspired by the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, was reportedly in development by CD Projekt Red and Shantae developer WayForward. Codenamed Gemini, the project was said to be in its early stages and conceptualized as a "rollback-driven 2.5D brawler," leveraging WayForward's established expertise in the genre.
The game was purportedly being developed between 2025 and 2026. Details emerged from the portfolio of a former WayForward developer, who remained anonymous for privacy reasons. The project was reportedly being built with online multiplayer in mind, featuring "rollback-safe architecture" and "online transport integration."
While the current status of Gemini is unconfirmed, separate findings suggest WayForward was working on another Unreal Engine 5-powered project last year. Reports indicate that funding delays for this latter project led to a halt in development and subsequent layoffs at the studio following the delivery of a vertical slice. This news comes as CD Projekt Red continues to focus on the Cyberpunk franchise, with Season 2 of Edgerunners and a trading card game in the works, alongside the anticipated sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
