A 2.5D brawler inspired by the hit anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, codenamed Gemini, was reportedly in development at CD Projekt Red, according to details found in a former WayForward developer's portfolio. WayForward, known for titles like River City Girls and Shantae, was allegedly handling the game's development.

The portfolio described Gemini as a "rollback-driven brawler" intended for development between 2025 and 2026. It was also labeled as a CD Projekt Red title in the research and development phase and featured an internal logo combining the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners branding with the Gemini codename. This project would have aimed to capitalize on the anime's significant success, which largely overshadowed the initial launch reception of Cyberpunk 2077.

However, the future of Gemini appears uncertain. Reports indicate that WayForward experienced layoffs last September, and an unannounced project slated for 2025 may have been halted. If Gemini was that unannounced project, its development may have ceased. Details are scarce, with the former portfolio being the primary source of information regarding the game's existence and status.

CD Projekt Red has publicly confirmed its work on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Project Orion. Meanwhile, a second season of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime is anticipated to release this fall. Polygon has reached out to both CD Projekt Red and WayForward for comment on the Gemini project.
