Netflix has announced that the second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the popular anime adaptation of CD Projekt's 2020 RPG and Mike Pondsmith's tabletop setting, is slated for release this fall. This marks a four-year wait since the first season's debut.
The upcoming season will adopt an anthology approach, introducing a new ensemble of characters following the conclusion of the first season's narrative. A social media post from the franchise confirmed the Fall 2026 release window, featuring a cryptic message about a new "EDGERUNNER" named Talia Yang.
The original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime is widely credited with contributing to the resurgence of interest in Cyberpunk 2077. Released in 2022, the series generated significant goodwill that encouraged players to approach the game with a more favorable outlook, even before the release of the transformative 2.0 update in 2023.
The timeline for the new season remains unconfirmed. The first season was set prior to the events of Cyberpunk 2077 and was referenced within the game. While the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion takes place concurrently with the main game, it does include a potential future ending. It is possible that Edgerunners season two could explore events before, between, or after the game's existing narrative. CD Projekt Red's current development focus is on The Witcher 4, with anticipation for Cyberpunk 2 not expected until 2030.
