Spike Chunsoft has announced a delay for the upcoming remaster of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, now slated for an early 2027 release. The game, previously expected in 2026, will be subtitled Danganronpa 2x2 and includes a new alternate storyline dubbed 'slayhem' mode.

This 'slayhem' mode presents a new scenario that diverges significantly from the original narrative of Danganronpa 2. It promises a different chain of events, featuring distinct victims, culprits, and investigative "tricks." Spike Chunsoft states this mode will add approximately 20% more content compared to the original game's story. Players will be able to access 'slayhem' mode from the start, allowing them to experience the new content without first completing the original scenario.

Beyond the new story content, the remaster will update the game's presentation. Characters will receive new portraits, and the existing side-scrolling world map will be replaced with a fully 3D map. This new map will also incorporate an optional fast-travel system for improved player navigation.

Details regarding the soundtrack, such as whether it will feature new music, remixes, or retain the original score, have not yet been disclosed by Spike Chunsoft.
