The PC specifications for Danganronpa 2×2, a retelling of the 2012 PSP visual novel Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, have been released and are causing significant confusion among fans due to their unusually high recommended requirements. Originally slated for release in fall, the game is now scheduled to launch on January 14, 2027.
While the minimum RAM requirement is set at 8GB, the recommended specifications demand an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card and a substantial 32GB of RAM. This has led to widespread bewilderment, as the visual novel genre, which typically features static backgrounds and character sprites with dialogue, rarely necessitates such powerful hardware.
Players have taken to social media to express their disbelief, with one user joking that such demanding specs for a visual novel would require "at minimum Nagito has to get off the screen and give me a kiss on the mouth for all this." The sentiment is echoed by others who point out the perceived graphical simplicity of the game, noting that it appears to be playable on the original PS Vita.
This discrepancy between the game's apparent visual scope and its PC requirements suggests either a hidden complexity within Danganronpa 2×2 or a significant optimization issue. The timing of these high-spec demands is particularly noteworthy, as RAM prices have recently seen a sharp increase. For instance, 32GB of DDR5-5600 memory, which cost under $250 when the remake was initially announced, now approaches $1,250.
There is still hope that Spike Chunsoft may revise these requirements, similar to how TT Games reduced the recommended RAM for Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight earlier this year. Even if the requirements are halved, 16GB of RAM would still be considered substantial for a visual novel. The true challenge for Danganronpa 2×2 may not be its narrative mystery, but rather explaining its unusually demanding resource footprint on PC.
