Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Community Edition is an Official Upgrade Coming to Steam

A substantial fan-made project is set to bring Dark Messiah of Might & Magic into the modern era, with official support from Ubisoft. The Dark Messiah of Might & Magic: Community Edition, developed by WiltOS Technologies in collaboration with the game's modding community, is slated for release on Steam. This comprehensive overhaul enhances the 20-year-old immersive sim with a host of new features and improvements.

The Community Edition boasts numerous enhancements, including Linux and 64-bit support, the restoration of cut content, and the integration of console-exclusive maps and modes. Players can also look forward to new additions such as co-op multiplayer, a New Game+ mode, an adventure mode with bonus levels, new spells, weapons, and abilities like sliding. The project also introduces randomly generated levels and Steam Workshop support, aiming to foster an even more vibrant modding scene.

WiltOS Technologies has ported Dark Messiah to the latest Source engine, working closely with modders to incorporate fan requests and existing modifications. Ubisoft's direct involvement has been crucial; the publisher provided significant support, even inviting the developers to Ubisoft Montreal to facilitate the integration of console features into the PC version. This collaboration marks a significant step in community-driven game development.

First announced in March, the upcoming Steam release of the Community Edition now feels more imminent with the launch of its Steam page. While originally released in 2006, this new edition aims not just to be a definitive version but a new foundation for future mods. WiltOS Technologies has expressed a commitment to continued development, planning new modes and features, and empowering the community to shape the game's future.
