Dark Souls 2 Now Features Seamless Co-Op Thanks to Fan Mod

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin has received a seamless co-op mod, developed by Yui, the creator behind similar mods for Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring, and Armored Core. This new alpha version allows up to five players to engage in drop-in, drop-out cooperative play from start to finish within a single session.

The mod addresses limitations inherent in Dark Souls 2's native co-op system, which typically requires specific items and server restrictions, often interrupting gameplay. Yui's mod bypasses these restrictions, keeping player sessions synchronized and removing progression blockers that would otherwise hinder cooperative play.

Players can download the mod from NexusMods or GitHub. As this is an alpha release, Yui notes that some issues may occur. Potential problems include enemy de-synchronization, particularly during boss fights such as Velstadt and Sinh, and occasional desyncs with interactions like opening doors or picking up items. A comprehensive list of known issues is available on Yui's Patreon page, where the modder also provides updates on their progress. Multiple patches have already been released, indicating that a more stable version may be forthcoming.
