Developer Red Hook Studios has announced The Fire's Edge, the first downloadable content for the original Darkest Dungeon since 2020. This new DLC, set to release on August 18th, coincides with the 10th anniversary of the game's 1.0 launch and will introduce elements from its sequel, Darkest Dungeon 2.

New Heroes and Mechanics

The Fire's Edge brings two hero classes from Darkest Dungeon 2 into the original game: the Duelist and the Runaway. The Duelist is described as a complex damage dealer capable of maintaining Riposte while shifting between defensive and aggressive combat stances. The Runaway, meanwhile, is a position-flexible damage dealer that utilizes a unique Burn damage type and synergizes well with teams that employ stuns, pulls, and knockback effects.

The DLC will also introduce new trinket mechanics, including trigger uses, quest charges, and progressive trinkets, though further details on these systems have not yet been provided. Three new Hamlet Districts are also included: Academie Duello, Craftworks, and Archaeological Base Camp.

This update offers players an opportunity to return to the challenging turn-based dungeon crawler, Darkest Dungeon, with fresh content. The impending release date means those looking to dive back into its grim world will not have to wait long.
