Developer Red Hook Studios is revisiting the original Darkest Dungeon with a new downloadable content pack, The Fire's Edge, which is set to launch on August 18th. This DLC marks the first significant addition to the game in several years and coincides with the original Darkest Dungeon's 10th anniversary, having been first released on January 19th, 2016.

The Fire's Edge introduces two new heroes to the roster, both originating from Darkest Dungeon 2. The Duelist is described as a versatile damage dealer capable of shifting between offensive and defensive combat stances while maneuvering within the party. The Runaway is a position-flexible damage dealer that specializes in a unique burn damage effect.

Complementing the new heroes, the DLC also brings the burn combat mechanic to the forefront. Trinkets within the game are receiving a rework with new associated mechanics. Additionally, players can look forward to three new Hamlet districts: Academie Duello, Craftworks, and Archaeological Base Camp.

While Darkest Dungeon 2 received generally positive reviews, it has not achieved the same universal acclaim as its predecessor, as indicated by Steam user reviews. The decision to develop new content for the original game raises questions about the studio's current priorities. However, Red Hook Studios has also indicated that further DLC for Darkest Dungeon 2 is planned for early 2027.
