Disney is reviving the classic '90s cartoon character Darkwing Duck for a new series on Disney Plus. The show will see Drake Mallard reprise his role as the crime-fighting duck, facing off against classic antagonists like Negaduck and Megavolt. He will also be reunited with allies Launchpad, Gosalyn, and Morgana.
The new series is set to explore an alternate reality where Darkwing Duck has been largely forgotten. A teenage character named Duckie, who knows of Darkwing's heroic past, arrives to pull the vigilante back into action. Together, they will confront familiar foes and work to save the universe.
The voice cast includes Mark Hamill as Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck, Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar as Duckie. Other cast members include Dan Stevens, Tiffany Shepis, Kathryn Newton, Teo Briones, Tyler Dean Flores, Katie Rich, and Nat Faxon. Tad Stones, the creator of the original Darkwing Duck, provided consultation for the new series.
This revival follows Disney's trend of revisiting its animated library. Darkwing Duck previously reappeared in the 2017 DuckTales reboot before getting his own series.
The original Darkwing Duck series premiered in 1991 and aired for 91 episodes across various Disney networks and syndication. The character also appeared in video games and comic books. Jim Cummings originally voiced the character, with Chris Diamantopoulos taking over in 2017. The original series is currently available for streaming on Disney Plus.
A release date for the new Darkwing Duck series has not yet been announced.
