Dave Bautista is reportedly set to portray Kratos in Amazon's upcoming live-action adaptation of the God of War series. The news follows earlier rumors that the actor was in discussions with Amazon for the pivotal role.

Variety reported the casting, stating that Bautista has signed on for the part. This development comes after the original actor cast as Kratos, Ryan Hurst, sustained a bicep injury during filming, necessitating a recasting and reshoot of his scenes. Filming for the series, which had commenced in February, was halted due to Hurst's injury.

Bautista, 57, brings a significant background in action roles, including his portrayal of Drax the Destroyer in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and Avengers films. He also has a history in professional wrestling as Batista and has recently starred alongside Jason Momoa in Amazon's action film The Wrecking Crew.

Despite his action-oriented background, Bautista has previously expressed a desire to pursue more dramatic roles and voiced concerns about his ability to secure action roles as he ages. He told Entertainment Weekly in 2024, "I'm not the great, big, muscular guy I used to be," and added, "I want to be a real and respected actor." However, his casting as Kratos suggests continued opportunities in the action genre.

The God of War series is being developed by Ronald D. Moore, an executive producer known for his work on Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Outlander. The series has reportedly received a two-season order, with production expected to resume soon. No release date has been announced for the series.
