Dave Bautista, known for his portrayal of Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is reportedly in early negotiations to play Kratos in Amazon's upcoming God of War television adaptation. Deadline reports that the wrestler-turned-actor is being considered for the part of Atreus' father.

This news comes after Ryan Hurst, who was originally cast as Kratos, stepped down from the role due to a bicep injury. Production on the series was subsequently put on hold and is now scheduled to resume in mid-October. If Bautista signs on, he is expected to film the first four episodes during extensive reshoots.

Bautista would be acting opposite Callum Vinson, the child actor from "Chucky" who is set to portray Atreus in the first season. However, Amazon plans to recast the role of Atreus for subsequent seasons to reflect the character's aging. Similarly, Island Austin, who plays a younger version of Thor's daughter Thrud, will also be replaced in season two.

Bautista's prior acting credits include roles in "Dune" and "Glass Onion." He also has experience in voice acting, having voiced Tagah in "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
