Production on Amazon Prime's live-action God of War television series has reportedly hit a snag, with Dave Bautista in discussions to potentially replace Ryan Hurst as Kratos. Hurst suffered a bicep tear during filming last month, an injury that will necessitate a significant recovery period. According to reports from Variety, this has led Amazon to consider recasting the iconic role.

Should Bautista sign on, it would place him in the lead role of the Norse demigod. The former WWE superstar has a notable filmography, including his portrayal of Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Guardians of the Galaxy films, and roles in "Dune," "Blade Runner 2049," "Glass Onion," and "Army of the Dead." Bautista also has prior experience with video game adaptations, having appeared as a character model swap in "Gears 5" after publicly expressing interest in a video game film role.

It remains unclear if the four episodes of the series that had already been filmed prior to Hurst's injury will be salvaged. The rest of the confirmed cast includes Callum Vinson as Atreus, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn as Brok, and Jeff Gulka as Sindri. The series, which is set to adapt the narrative of the 2018 God of War game, has a confirmed two-season order.
