DC Comics has unveiled plans for the "Swamp Thing by Alan Moore Omnibus," a definitive collection of Alan Moore's seminal work on the iconic character, slated for release on July 6, 2027. This two-volume slipcase set aims to present Moore's complete run with restored and remastered original coloring, alongside period-appropriate paper stock, addressing long-standing fan critiques of previous collected editions.
Current collected editions, including trade paperbacks and Absolute Editions, feature modernized coloring that has drawn criticism for altering the original tone of the comics. This new omnibus is expected to offer a visual experience closer to how the series originally appeared in the 1980s.
The collection will reprint The Saga of the Swamp Thing #16-30, Swamp Thing #31-64, Swamp Thing Annual #2, DC Comics Presents #85, John Constantine, Hellblazer #1-3, and select pages from DC Sampler #2-3, Crisis on Infinite Earths #4, and The New Teen Titans (vol. 2) #18 and #22. It will also include Moore's original proposal for the "Twilight of the Superheroes" event and surviving pages from Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson's "Swamp Thing: Déjà Vu." The omnibus will also feature new essays by Bissette and Veitch, as well as previously unseen original artwork, pencils, and scripts.
This release follows DC's recent announcement of a long-awaited publication of a controversial, canceled storyline where Swamp Thing encounters Jesus Christ, indicating a renewed focus on classic Swamp Thing narratives.
