DC Studios co-head Peter Safran has confirmed that the studio has engaged in discussions with actor Alan Ritchson regarding potential roles within the DC Universe. While Ritchson has been considered for several projects, a definitive casting decision has not yet been made.
Safran told Collider that Ritchson is an actor DC Studios wishes to work with and that they have explored opportunities for him across multiple projects. However, none of these discussions have led to a role thus far. Despite fan speculation linking Ritchson to the DCU's Batman, Safran indicated that this is not the intended role for the actor.
"He's just good," Safran stated, suggesting that Ritchson possesses a depth and range that DC aims to showcase beyond his typical portrayals of physically imposing characters. The studio is reportedly seeking a part that allows Ritchson to demonstrate more of his acting capabilities.
While Ritchson's physical presence might suggest roles such as Bane or Deathstroke, for which DC is developing separate films, the studio appears to be looking for a different kind of opportunity for the actor. The specific characters discussed remain unconfirmed.
DC Studios is currently working on introducing its own version of Batman, distinct from Robert Pattinson's iteration. This new Batman is expected to be older and will likely be involved with Damian Wayne. The character has had minimal on-screen presence so far, with a brief appearance in the animated series Creature Commandos and no involvement in the Clayface movie. The studio is taking its time to ensure a proper introduction for this new Batman, with potential appearances in upcoming projects like Superman: Man of Tomorrow yet to be confirmed.
