Behaviour Interactive, the developer behind Dead by Daylight, has addressed the recent removal of Chucky from the game's store, explaining that such departures are due to expiring licenses rather than developer preference. The studio emphasized that horror icons, even those removed from purchase, will always have "an open invitation to join (or rejoin)" the game.
This clarification follows the exit of Chucky from digital storefronts, a move that saddened fans after similar removals of Michael Myers and Pinhead in recent years. However, Behaviour stated that the decision to remove characters is outside of their control once licensing agreements conclude. While their "goal is always to keep licenses" in Dead by Daylight permanently, this is not always feasible.
As of November 24, 2026, the Chucky Chapter will no longer be available for purchase. Behaviour assured players that anyone who has already acquired the possessed killer doll and any associated cosmetics will retain full access to them indefinitely. This means that while new players will not be able to purchase the character, existing owners can continue to use him.
The developer reiterated its commitment to Dead by Daylight as a "House of Horror," ensuring that franchises like Child's Play, Halloween, and Hellraiser will always be welcomed back into the Fog should their licenses be renewed. This sentiment is echoed by past instances, such as the return of the Stranger Things chapter after its removal.
"As with all live service games, players can expect regular updates, new content, and occasional changes over time," Behaviour said in a statement. "Our goal is always to keep licenses in our game forever. When they have to go away, it's because - despite our best efforts - it wasn't possible to retain them.
We want to reassure our community that Chucky will remain part of the Dead by Daylight experience for existing owners. Players who already own The Good Guy, his perks, or any associated cosmetics will still be able to use that content after November 24, 2026.
Dead by Daylight will always be gaming's House of Horror, and horror icons will continue to have an open invitation to join (or rejoin) us in the Fog."
While the return of Chucky remains uncertain, Dead by Daylight has recently seen the addition of new content, with Terrifier's Art the Clown set to join the game next month, and Friday the 13th's Jason already added. Further details on Behaviour's recent announcements were shared during their 10th Anniversary Broadcast.
