Dead or Alive 6: Last Round, the re-release of Koei Tecmo's 2019 fighting game, has launched to significant player dissatisfaction, earning "Mostly Negative" reviews on Steam. Players are reporting that the $40 title, which is now the only version available following the delisting of the original Dead or Alive 6, suffers from persistent bugs that were present in the initial 2019 release and forces users to repurchase content they previously owned.
The re-release includes five additional characters, some visual enhancements, and a new photo mode. However, players have expressed disappointment over the lack of rollback netcode, a feature widely considered standard for modern fighting games. The Steam store page lists over 400 pieces of DLC for Dead or Alive 6: Last Round. While Koei Tecmo notes that many of these are bundled versions of existing content and that some DLC characters are included in the base game for those using the free-to-play Core Fighters version, a substantial amount of DLC is not present in the full-priced $40 edition.
Compounding player frustration, some content from the original Dead or Alive 6 is not transferable to Last Round. Notably, DLC characters Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond must be repurchased, even by players who owned them previously. This is attributed to licensing issues with SNK, the owner of the King of Fighters franchise from which these characters originate. Additionally, the prices for DLC characters have reportedly increased from $8 to $11 since the game's re-release.
Further complicating matters, certain costumes from the original Dead or Alive 6 are also unavailable for purchase in Last Round. While a workaround exists—purchasing these costumes in the original delisted versions of the game and then transferring them—this is only viable for players who already own those versions. For those who do not, these costumes appear to be permanently inaccessible.
