Developer Echofall Games has announced Deepward, a fast-paced first-person shooter roguelite set in the 1920s. The game will allow players to select three heroes from a roster of six, with the ability to switch between them dynamically during combat.
The game's setting is described as a cursed and strange place that descends into deeper, more impossible environments. Players will explore gothic interiors, caves, prisons, and ritual spaces as they uncover buried truths. Each of the six heroes will possess unique weapons, abilities, playstyles, and backstories, adding variety to the gameplay.
Deepward features permanent death for each descent into its depths, requiring players to rely on shooting, kicking, slashing, and improvisation to survive relentless hordes of enemies. The combat is characterized as "gore-heavy," emphasizing quick reactions, accurate shooting, and forceful impact to manage overwhelming pressure and constant enemy influxes. The game is currently in development for PC, though a release window has not yet been announced. Interested players can wishlist Deepward on Steam.
