Deltarune Chapter 5: Festival Day, the latest installment in Toby Fox's indie RPG series, has been released and is available as a free update for owners of the base game. Coinciding with this release, Fox updated the game's Steam FAQ page, revealing that development has already begun on Chapter 6, which is currently slated for a 2027 release.
The episodic nature of Deltarune, which first launched in 2018, has led to significant fan anticipation between chapters. The chapter select screen currently displays seven chapters, suggesting that only two more installments, including Chapter 6, will be released before the game's conclusion. The game's Steam page notes that Deltarune will feature "only 1 ending," a departure from Fox's previous title, Undertale, which famously offered multiple endings based on player choices. However, some players speculate about additional chapters due to the discovery of unused files referencing chapters beyond the seventh.
The development timeline between Deltarune chapters has historically been lengthy. Chapter 1 was released in 2018, followed by Chapter 2 in 2021. Chapters 3 and 4 were released simultaneously in 2025, and Chapter 5 arrived recently. With Chapter 6 now targeted for 2027, the series appears to be moving towards a more consistent release schedule. If this pace is maintained, Deltarune's seventh and potentially final chapter could arrive as early as 2028, a decade after its initial launch.
Deltarune is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
