Destiny 2 'Unvaulting' Details Coming Soon, Bungie Confirms

Bungie is preparing to offer more specific information regarding its plan to reintroduce content previously removed from Destiny 2. The developer surprised players last month by announcing its intention to bring back campaigns and other additions that had been taken out of the game over the years. At the time of the initial announcement, Bungie provided no specific details or a timeline for when this content would return.

Josh Deane, Bungie's head of product, indicated that the studio is nearing a point where it can provide a progress update. "I know there are a lot of questions on the how, what, when of unvaulting," Deane stated on X. "There's going to be a very intentional process for all of it that will take time."

Deane elaborated that Bungie intends to begin "talking about what our first step is going to look like with more clarity" by the end of October. He also clarified that this development update will not follow a conventional roadmap format. Instead, Bungie views the process as a "progress bar" designed to bring players closer to development milestones more consistently. "Just be transparent about any challenges we run into and show you the proof of work along the way that unlocks further understanding," Deane explained. "That way when we share a release date we're all on the same page and have the right expectations that leads directly into how we'll further celebrate Destiny's legacy and vision for the future."

A report from Forbes suggested that while removed campaigns, raids, and destinations are slated for a return, expired live seasons will not be reinstated. The report also indicated that this work does not signify Destiny 2 is returning to active development.

In June, Bungie released a significant update for Destiny 2 alongside the announcement that active development on the shooter-MMO had concluded. This update introduced highly requested features, addressed long-standing issues, and added new gameplay elements, seemingly reigniting enough player interest to prompt Bungie's efforts to bring back deleted content.
