Players looking forward to the return of Destiny 2's vaulted campaigns will need to exercise significant patience, as Bungie has indicated that the unvaulting process will not be completed until at least 2028. The developer shared an updated roadmap in a recent blog post detailing the phased approach to bringing back legacy content.
The initial phase of the unvaulting, planned for all players, will focus on restoring campaign content, Strikes, and Raids from previously vaulted expansions. The popular Menagerie activity is also slated for a return with reprised rewards. This means players can expect to revisit campaigns such as The Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind, along with their associated Strikes and Raids. The development process for this initial pass began in June with feasibility studies and is currently in pre-production. Full production is anticipated to start by February 2027, with an estimated 12-month development cycle. This timeline places the earliest possible launch for this content in 2028.
Bungie is also exploring "stretch goals" for the unvaulting, which may be implemented either at launch or post-release. These include the potential return of free-roam destinations, seasonal activities like the Sundial and The Coil, updated raid and raid lair weapons, and new PvP maps.
Beyond the unvaulting, Bungie has hinted at larger future plans for Destiny 2. A "celebration" event is planned beyond the standard Moment of Triumph, promising "new updates." Additionally, a project referred to as "Destiny Legacy" is mentioned, with a cryptic tagline suggesting a comprehensive re-experience of the game's decade-long history. Further details on these initiatives are expected in early next year. A mysterious entry simply titled "Redacted" accompanied by the phrase "We’re back" has also been noted, leaving its meaning open to speculation among the community. The core message from Bungie is that they are actively building a new future for Destiny, indicating the game is far from finished.
