Paramount has announced that Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will premiere on October 30th. The first teaser trailer showcases Dexter grappling with the realities of aging, including the need for reading glasses, while still actively pursuing other killers. The footage offers brief glimpses of his familiar lethal methods but provides few specific plot details.
The new season will feature a three-year time jump, advancing the narrative to a point where Dexter's son, Harrison, is now 21 and a member of the NYPD. This development is expected to introduce new conflicts between father and son. Dexter himself is depicted as navigating a mid-life crisis, a theme that will be explored through two primary antagonists: one significantly older and one considerably younger than him.
Showrunner Clyde Phillips revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the younger antagonist is Lucas Stark, also known as the Five Borough Killer. Stark's actions, terrorizing New York City with a series of murders, are described as stealing Dexter's spotlight. Phillips noted that Dexter, who secretly desires recognition, becomes agitated as Stark gains notoriety while his own identity remains unknown.
The older antagonist is the New York Ripper, portrayed by Brian Cox. This character, an aging and brutal killer, preys on the families of his past victims. His presence was hinted at in Season 1, with Dexter and Harrison encountering evidence of the Ripper's crimes, including a victim's photograph and a recording of a disturbing phone call. Phillips praised Cox's performance, highlighting the actor's gravitas and preparation, noting that the character, despite being in a wheelchair, continues to torment survivors through modulated phone calls.
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 boasts a notable cast, including Gabriel Luna, Brian Cox, Dan Stevens, Kane Hodder, and Chris Jericho. Uma Thurman and Krysten Ritter are also slated to return, alongside other returning characters from Dexter's past.
