Blizzard Entertainment's development team for Diablo 4 is reportedly thrilled about the prospect of a new Diablo animated series coming to Netflix. While details remain scarce, the prospect of expanding the Diablo universe through storytelling has generated significant anticipation among the game's creators.

Diablo 4 Game Director Brent Gibson stated that while he lacks specific information about the show, the mere fact of its existence is exciting. "I'm a story guy. I want to see more story, as much story as you can get," Gibson remarked. He believes the Diablo universe is a perfect setting for narrative expansion, echoing Blizzard President Johanna Faries' sentiment that the company is dedicated to storytelling.

Owen Leach, Season Lead for Diablo 4 - Hell's Legacy, expressed similar enthusiasm, calling the show his "fan answer" and proclaiming, "Hell yes" to the idea of an animated series on Netflix. Gibson also drew parallels to other successful game-to-series adaptations, citing the recent "Fallout" series as an example of how such projects can lead to a resurgence in the game's popularity.

Beyond the animated series, the development team also highlighted upcoming content for Diablo 4 itself. Leach is particularly excited about the "Season of Hell's Legacy" and the addition of new bosses, including Na-Krul from "Diablo: Hellfire," as part of the game's 30th-anniversary celebration. The season is scheduled to launch on September 15th.

Gibson also shared his anticipation for the "Diablo 4: Age of Hatred Collection," which is set to release on the Nintendo Switch 2 on the same date. He noted the long-standing desire within the team to bring Diablo to handheld platforms and expressed satisfaction with the quality achieved in the port. "There is an audience there that we haven't been servicing," Gibson said, acknowledging the game's presence on a list of highly anticipated Switch 2 launch titles.

Leach added that the flexibility of playing on a dedicated handheld console, in addition to PC, enhances the player experience. He mentioned transitioning from playing on a Steam Deck to a console build for greater convenience.

The announcements were made in conjunction with other reveals during a recent BlizzCon Opening Ceremony, where Faries also hinted at potential series adaptations for other Blizzard franchises like Overwatch and Warcraft.
