Diablo 4 is set to introduce a feature called 'Rebirth' in its upcoming update, allowing players to bring characters from the game's persistent Eternal realm into the Seasonal realm. This addresses a persistent player request to avoid starting from scratch with every new season.
The distinction between the Eternal and Seasonal realms in Diablo 4 means that while the Eternal realm receives general gameplay updates, it does not incorporate the live service content exclusive to seasons. Historically, this has necessitated the creation of new characters for each seasonal offering.
The new Rebirth feature will permit players to select an existing Eternal character to continue their journey in the Seasonal realm. However, this transfer comes with a significant limitation: character power progression does not carry over, and characters will reset to level one upon rebirth. What does transfer are the character's class, name, appearance, and state (Normal or Hardcore), along with cosmetic elements such as transmogs, pigments, mounts, accessories, pets, portals, and headstones. Playtime associated with the character is also retained.
Players must ensure that all gear and items are either stashed or transferred out of the character's inventory before initiating Rebirth. The game includes a safeguard that prevents the feature from being used if a character has any items equipped or in their personal inventory. A warning will be presented before Rebirth is finalized, offering the option to remove or destroy any retained items.
The current iteration of patch 3.2.0 on the Public Test Realm is described as less feature-rich than a typical seasonal update, a deliberate choice by Blizzard. This version serves as a preview of mechanics and features slated for Season 15, with additional seasonal content to be revealed at BlizzCon in early September. Season 15 is scheduled to commence on September 15th.
