Diablo 4's Season 14 update introduces significant adjustments aimed at alleviating the game's most tedious endgame grind: gem acquisition. The changes, detailed in patch notes for update 3.1.0, make obtaining powerful Horadric and Flawless Horadric Gems considerably less time-consuming, while also overhauling the system for Mythic items.

Previously, acquiring the highest tiers of gems required extensive farming. Players often resorted to running the Seer's Reach dungeon repeatedly to gather gem fragments, which were then converted into Grand Gems, Horadric Gems, and finally, Flawless Horadric Gems. This process could take many hours, even for a single character's gear set. The introduction of Horadric and Flawless Horadric Gems in the Lord of Hatred expansion, while powerful, was initially gated by a crafting-only system that exacerbated this grind.

Season 14 addresses this issue through two primary changes. Firstly, players will now find a greater quantity of gem fragments in Torment X and higher difficulty levels, reducing the necessity of repeatedly farming specific dungeons like Seer's Reach. Secondly, the conversion recipes at the Jeweler have been simplified. The number of distinct gem types required for conversion has been reduced from three to two, and the overlap between recipes has been lessened, making it easier for players to obtain the specific gems they need for their builds.

While these gem-related changes aim to make Diablo 4's endgame more manageable, the season also brings substantial changes to Mythic items. These items now feature a greater degree of random affixes, a modification referred to by Blizzard as "Mythic Uniques 3.0." This increased randomization is intended to extend the pursuit of perfectly rolled items, though it has already proven to be a point of community discussion. Blizzard acknowledges the controversial nature of this change, viewing it as a necessary step for the long-term health and engagement of Diablo 4's endgame content, even as some initial randomness has been adjusted since the season's launch.
