Blizzard is adopting a more secretive approach for Diablo 4's next season, with a full reveal of content planned for BlizzCon in September. While many details are being withheld, information released in a recent blog post outlines several new features, including "Challenge Dungeons" and "Overland Ambushes," which will be available for testing on the public test realm starting August 4.

Challenge Dungeons appear to be randomized boss encounters within the open world, offering customizable difficulty for endgame players. The developers noted that the encounters on the PTR are designed to test underlying systems and that the final Season 15 experience will differ. These dungeons might offer a more dynamic open-world experience, potentially serving as a permanent iteration of the current season's Deathtoll Chambers.

Overland Ambushes will present players with a timed event where they are warned of an impending demon hunt, requiring them to either escape or fight. The exact frequency, location, and rewards for these ambushes remain vague, with Blizzard intending to provide more clarity closer to the full release.

The upcoming season will also introduce new "Soul Splinters" items that can be slotted into jewelry, offering significant damage buffs at the cost of drawbacks such as increased damage taken or character stuns. Furthermore, Blizzard is reintroducing unique items from previous Diablo titles, including Diablo 1, Diablo 2, and Diablo 3. For example, Leoric's Crown from Diablo 3 will occupy a helm slot but function as a jewelry item, enhancing gem effects.

Additional changes include the return of Diablo 3's "Rebirth" system for seasonal character resets and adjustments to the controversial Mythic Unique item system. Mythics will be made easier to craft and find, with the rarest "Iconic Mythics" receiving weaker Unique versions to aid in earlier build progression. The PTR for Diablo 4 Season 15 will run from August 4 to August 11, allowing players to test these features.
