Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced Diablo 5, with the next mainline entry in the nearly 30-year-old franchise slated for a spring 2029 release. The confirmation came during the opening ceremony at BlizzCon 2026.

Diablo 5 is set to take place approximately 100 years after the events of Diablo 4. Following the defeat of Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred, the world of Sanctuary has fallen. The game will present players with a post-apocalyptic scenario where Diablo has emerged victorious in the eternal conflict between the forces of good and evil. The central narrative question posed for players is "What must you become when the world has already fallen?"

A teaser trailer shown during the BlizzCon opening ceremony depicted Diablo's forces overwhelming a horde of angels, hinting at the grim future of the game's world.

More detailed information regarding Diablo 5's world, classes, and creative direction is expected to be shared during the "Diablo 5: Forging the Next Era" panel at BlizzCon on September 12.

The upcoming sequel will arrive roughly six years after Diablo 4's release in June 2023. While Blizzard has released two expansions for Diablo 4, Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred, along with plans for a new playable Amazon class, the development timeline for Diablo 5 appears to be faster than some previous sequels. The original Diablo launched in January 1997, followed by Diablo 2 in June 2000. However, it took over a decade for Diablo 3 to arrive in 2012, and another 11 years until Diablo 4. Blizzard has not yet revealed the platforms for Diablo 5, though Diablo 4 was developed for PC and consoles, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
