Diablo: Unbound Board Game Announced, Featuring Solo and Co-op Play

Blizzard Entertainment's popular action RPG franchise, Diablo, is expanding into the tabletop realm with Diablo: Unbound, an officially licensed board game developed by Glass Cannon Unplugged. The game is designed as a replayable cooperative or solo experience, blending genres and mechanics to create what the developer calls a "dungeon battler."

Diablo: Unbound is slated to arrive on the crowdfunding platform Gamefound in the first quarter of 2027. Like many crowdfunding campaigns, it will feature stretch goals, exclusive rewards, and additional content for backers. The game is structured into three acts, with each act comprising three dungeon levels. Players will explore these dungeons, defeat enemies, and confront a boss at the end of each act.

Gameplay involves collecting gear and experience points throughout the dungeon crawl. Loot can be acquired from chests, by defeating elite enemies, completing side quests, and maintaining killstreaks. While bosses are guaranteed to drop the best loot, the randomness of drops ensures an element of surprise. Players can choose from iconic Diablo classes such as the Barbarian, Rogue, Paladin, and Sorceress, and will face a variety of enemies including Khazra, Demons, and Undead.

A single dungeon session is expected to last between 60 and 90 minutes, with an entire act taking up to 4.5 hours to complete. After finishing the third act, an endgame mode called Torment will become available, allowing players to challenge any boss of their choosing in its ultimate form. Between combat encounters, players can return to a Town Phase to manage inventory, upgrade skills, and respec their character builds.

"You get the high-stakes showdowns of a boss battler—and hordes of monsters that never let up. But you don’t crawl through dungeons. You battle your way down. That’s why we call it a dungeon battler," said GCU CEO Jakub Wiśniewski in a press statement. Those interested in experiencing Diablo: Unbound firsthand can try a demo at the SPIEL Essen board game trade fair in Germany from October 22-25.
