Blizzard Entertainment and Glass Cannon Unplugged have officially revealed Diablo: Unbound, a new cooperative board game set to launch in 2027. The announcement was made during Spiel Essen 2026, one of the world's largest board game conventions. This new title follows weeks after the reveal of Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026.
Described as a "dungeon battler," Diablo: Unbound aims to capture the hack-and-slash essence of the video game series. Players, from one to four, will navigate through dungeons, combat monsters, and acquire increasingly powerful gear in a highly replayable experience. Jakub Wiśniewski, CEO of Glass Cannon Unplugged, stated that the game features "high-stakes showdowns of a boss battler—and hordes of monsters that never let up." Players will "battle their way down" through dungeons, distinguishing it from traditional dungeon crawlers.
The board game incorporates both deck-building and dice-rolling mechanics. It draws inspiration from the franchise's history, featuring four classic playable classes: Barbarian, Rogue, Sorceress, and Paladin. Each class will have its own skill tree, abilities, and progression system, with additional classes planned as stretch goals and future expansions.
Diablo: Unbound is structured into three acts, with each act comprising three dungeon levels culminating in boss battles. The game will feature randomized loot drops, rewarding players who take on greater risks. Between dungeon delves, a Town Phase allows players to manage their inventory, upgrade skills, and respec their characters. Each dungeon crawl is estimated to take between 60 to 90 minutes, with a full act requiring approximately three to four hours to complete.
An endgame mode called Torment will also be available, enabling players to challenge any of the game's bosses in their ultimate form, designed to test endgame characters. The game is currently in a pre-launch phase on Gamefound, with Glass Cannon Unplugged planning to release more details over the coming months. The full campaign is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Glass Cannon Unplugged has a notable history of adapting video games and other intellectual properties into board games, with previous titles including Frostpunk: The Board Game, Apex Legends: The Board Game, Dying Light: The Board Game, and Don’t Starve: The Board Game.
