Supermassive Games is bringing the multiplayer functionality of its latest title, Directive 8020, online this October. The developer announced the upcoming addition of online co-op play via a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Directive 8020 is the most recent entry in Supermassive's series of narrative-focused horror games. Unlike previous titles that often featured groups of young adults in peril, Directive 8020 shifts the setting to a space colonization mission. The game allows up to five players to collectively make decisions for the characters, a feature previously only available in local "Movie Night" mode. The absence of an online option meant that cooperative play required players to be in the same physical location.
The game received mixed reviews, with some critics noting it was not among Supermassive's scariest offerings. Directive 8020 experienced a delay from its original October 2025 release into May 2026, following layoffs at Supermassive Games in July of the previous year. Further layoffs affecting approximately 75 employees occurred in August.
While a specific launch date for the online co-op feature has not yet been provided, Supermassive Games has stated it will be available in October, aligning with the seasonal celebrations of the spooky month.
