Discord has confirmed it has not yet received a subpoena from Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, concerning the recent Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks. The legal action, filed in a federal district court, aims to secure extensive user data from both Discord and Microsoft in relation to the leaked materials.
While Take-Two has filed the necessary legal documents, Discord's marketing director, Ryan K. Rigney, stated on X that the company has not been formally served. "When we do, we'll evaluate the validity and scope before responding," Rigney wrote. This indicates that Discord is awaiting official service of process before any data disclosure can be compelled.
The subpoena, as reported, requests a broad range of information from "all user accounts that are/were members" of specific Discord servers, including Ødyssey.gg, "! Odyssey", and DarkViperAU, from June 1st onwards. The data sought includes registration emails, IP addresses, phone numbers, linked connections, and device identifiers.
Microsoft, through its OneDrive and Xbox platforms, is also named in the filings. Take-Two is seeking OneDrive data where some leaks were hosted, along with Xbox account information linked to users' Discord accounts. Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet has confirmed that Microsoft is cooperating with the investigation, stating, "We are working closely with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to support efforts to protect creative works and intellectual property."
Take-Two had initially set a deadline of September 4th for Discord and Microsoft to provide the requested information. The Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks, which began surfacing recently, included gameplay videos showcasing new mechanics, a six-star Wanted system, driving sequences, NPC behavior, and police chases. The game's map and other gameplay elements also appear to have been leaked.
Rockstar Games has reportedly yet to identify the individual responsible for the leak or determine how the security breach occurred. Despite the leaks, a person familiar with the company's plans indicated that the incident is not expected to impact the planned extended look at the game by Netflix this week.
