Disney Plus is incorporating user-generated content from TikTok into its mobile app as part of a new feature called "Verts." This collaboration will feature select Disney-themed TikToks from participating creators, showcasing characters and stories from across Disney's various brands, including Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and FX. In exchange, TikTok will gain access to assets related to Disney films and series, creating a reciprocal content flow.

The partnership aims to deepen subscriber engagement by connecting them with timely fan conversations and fostering stronger communities around Disney's intellectual properties. According to Asad Ayaz, chief marketing and brand officer for The Walt Disney Company, this initiative bridges the gap between the stories Disney tells and the creativity they inspire, offering creators a larger platform and audiences more content to discover.

TikTok creators participating in the Disney Creator Ambassador Program will be incentivized with special rewards, increased visibility, access to exclusive events, and career development opportunities. Disney's decision to pursue this partnership is supported by internal data indicating that fans post an average of 6.5 million film- and TV-related videos on TikTok daily, with nearly half of surveyed viewers reporting that they discovered new shows or movies through the platform.

This development occurs shortly after Disney's contentious decision to cancel the Emmy-nominated series "Wonder Man" despite having previously green-lit a second season. Showrunner Andrew Guest stated that the cancellation was an internal decision by Disney and Marvel Studios, made despite contractual commitments and preparation for production.

The collaboration with TikTok also comes amid ongoing controversies surrounding the platform, including concerns over data privacy and allegations of censorship. Disney's previous plan for a similar integration with OpenAI's Sora AI video-generation tool was reportedly abandoned due to cost inefficiencies. The move to feature user-created content has raised concerns among some observers regarding potential impacts on the quality of content available on Disney Plus.
