Disney Plus will stream Super Bowl LXI in February 2027, marking the first time the NFL championship game will be available on the platform. The game will also air on ESPN and ABC, as part of the first-ever ESPN-produced Super Bowl broadcast. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are set to call the game, with Liza Salters and Laura Rutledge serving as sideline reporters.
This partnership extends Disney Plus's reach internationally, as the service will stream the Super Bowl in over 55 countries, including markets like Australia and Brazil, aligning with the NFL's global viewership expansion efforts.
Disney Plus's foray into live sports includes more than just the Super Bowl. The service will also carry two Monday Night Football games this year, airing alongside ESPN and ABC. The first of these matchups features NFC East rivals Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles on October 26. A second Monday Night Football game for Disney Plus has yet to be announced.
The inclusion of the Super Bowl on a streaming service reflects a broader trend across the industry, with platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Peacock increasingly securing rights to NFL games. Prime Video is notably broadcasting most of this year's Thursday Night Football games, Peacock is airing multiple games including an exclusive Week 17 contest, and Netflix will host five games, including a Christmas Day matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.
This shift towards streaming sports has led to a more complex viewing landscape for fans, often requiring multiple subscriptions to cable and various streaming services to catch all desired games. Unlike some exclusive streaming deals, the Super Bowl LXI will retain its traditional cable broadcast options.
According to Ampere Analysis, streaming services are projected to spend $14.2 billion on sports rights in 2026, a 7% increase from the previous year. Amazon Prime Video accounts for the largest share of this spending. This growth in sports rights acquisition comes as subscription prices for streaming services, including Disney Plus, have seen recent increases.
