AdHoc has released a patch for its superhero workplace comedy, Dispatch, on Nintendo Switch, offering players more control over the game's visual content. The update, dubbed the 'HR Violations Pack', addresses previous censorship mandates imposed by Nintendo.
When Dispatch initially launched on Switch, many players noted that certain content, including character nipples and penises, was obscured by black boxes, and sexually suggestive sounds were muted. AdHoc acknowledged fan disappointment and stated it was working with Nintendo on a resolution.
The HR Violations Pack is now available in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand. Once downloaded, Switch players can choose to enable or disable the display of various elements such as "breasts, butts and birds (AKA, obscene gestures)".
Despite this increased player choice, some content remains subject to Nintendo's "hard requirements." Specifically, sounds of sexual pleasure are still muted, and penises will not appear on screen. To address these remaining restrictions, AdHoc has introduced playful censorship alternatives. Players can opt to cover offending anatomy with an "elegant mosaic," classic black bars, or more unconventional options like "Strategically placed jorts" or an "oozing jam donut."
Players on Steam and PlayStation 5 will also gain access to these new censorship options, though the uncensored settings will remain the default on those platforms. The game's upcoming Xbox release this summer will similarly feature these choices.
Dispatch has achieved significant commercial success for AdHoc, surpassing one million copies sold within its first ten days of release last year. This success has prompted the studio to consider a second season, with potential for increased adult content in response to the reception of the first season.
