A devoted fan has apparently uncovered a secret message embedded within the cinematic trailer for Larian Studios' upcoming game, Divinity. The content creator, known as WolfheartFPS, suggests that symbols visible on the crown of a chained figure in the trailer translate to "chaos is coming" using the Elder Futhark runic alphabet.
Divinity, the seventh installment in the series from the creators of Baldur's Gate 3, was revealed in a cinematic trailer during The Game Awards 2025. The trailer depicts a tormented man adorned with a crown, described as having barbed wire and metal wrapped around his head, alongside lacerations. It was a behind-the-scenes video from 3D animation studio Unit Image that provided a closer look at the model and the symbols on the crown, prompting WolfheartFPS's investigation.
WolfheartFPS posits that these symbols are derived from Elder Futhark, an ancient Germanic alphabet dating back to the Migration Period. While acknowledging the phonetic complexity of translating Elder Futhark, the creator asserts that the runes on the crown spell out a message related to chaos. This discovery aligns with existing theories about Divinity's narrative focus, particularly given the appearance of a "hellstone" in the trailer and its overall chaotic presentation.
In the established lore of the Divinity universe, the Lord of Chaos is recognized as the creator of demons and is believed to be imprisoned in Tartarus, the game's depiction of hell. The fan's interpretation thus suggests that the Lord of Chaos may play a significant antagonistic role in Divinity's storyline.
Larian Studios has not yet announced a release date for Divinity. However, based on the studio's previous titles like Baldur's Gate 3 and the Divinity: Original Sin games, it is anticipated that the game might launch in an early access phase.
