Marvel Comics is set to release a new graphic novel starring the Sorcerer Supreme, titled Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare. This upcoming work will see the character confronting a magical crisis that plunges the world into a state of perpetual insomnia. The story is part of Abrams ComicArts' Marvel Arts line, which is curated by artist Alex Ross.
In Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare, the protagonist must journey to the Nightmare Realm to investigate the cause of this widespread sleeplessness. According to the official description, the graphic novel "explores the boundary between dreams and reality, combining forces with an unlikely ally in order to end a waking nightmare that threatens to destroy the world." The narrative is initiated by a mysterious hospital patient who warns of a "slumbering god" whose awakening could lead to the destruction of the multiverse.
The creative team behind Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare includes writer Kevin J. Anderson and artists Raúl Allén and Patricia Martín. Anderson expressed his intention to craft a "dark and twisted Lovecraft-inspired story" within the Doctor Strange universe, incorporating both a popular villain and a character who has not been seen since 1964.
Alex Ross, who curates the Marvel Arts line, praised the artistic style of Allén and Martín, comparing their depiction of New York to Winsor McCay's "Little Nemo in Slumberland." He noted that their work "elevates the possibilities of the graphic novel format."
Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare is scheduled for release in hardcover on September 8th and will be priced at $25.99. This new adventure comes as anticipation builds for the character's potential return in the upcoming film 'Avengers: Doomsday'.
