Director Fede Álvarez has announced that Don't Breathe 3 is in development, with plans for some cast members from the previous films to reprise their roles. Álvarez confirmed his intention to conclude the thriller trilogy during an appearance at Beyond Fest 2026, as reported by Dread Central. While his return as director is not yet confirmed, it is understood that he has contributed to the script.
The narrative direction for Don't Breathe 3 remains undisclosed. However, it is anticipated that the film will continue the story established in the first two installments, with Stephen Lang and Jane Levy expected to return as The Blind Man (Norman Nordstrom) and Rocky, respectively.
Álvarez and Levy previously collaborated on the 2013 Evil Dead reboot before reuniting for the original Don't Breathe in 2016. The first film, produced by Sam Raimi, centered on three thieves who break into a house and find themselves in a deadly cat-and-mouse game. Don't Breathe 2, released in 2021, continued Lang's story as The Blind Man. In that sequel, directing duties were handled by Rodo Sayagues, a frequent collaborator of Álvarez, with Raimi also returning as producer. Despite Lang having previously teased the possibility of a third film, updates regarding its development have been scarce in the years following the sequel's release.
Following his work on Alien: Romulus, Álvarez appears poised to bring the Don't Breathe saga to a close. The specific stage of this process is unclear, and further details regarding a release date or additional cast members are yet to be revealed. Álvarez has also been reportedly considered for producing a sequel to Alien: Romulus, though its status is also uncertain. In the meantime, the first Don't Breathe received an 8.8/10 review from IGN, while its sequel garnered a 5/10.
