Hong Kong action legend Donnie Yen has been secretly contributing to the kung fu choreography of the upcoming action game Phantom Blade Zero, developer S-Game revealed. Yen, known internationally for his roles in "Rogue One" and "John Wick 4," and for portraying the legendary martial artist Ip Man in numerous films, has been serving as a creative consultant for the game since 2023.
This reveal coincides with the launch of pre-orders for Phantom Blade Zero. The game, which features a "kungfupunk" aesthetic, was recently delayed from its initial release window to October 29 for additional polish. A more in-depth look at the game is slated for a PlayStation State of Play stream sometime before its launch.
Yen brings over four decades of martial arts experience to his role. His involvement was hinted at previously when S-Game founder Soulframe Liang credited Kenji Tanigaki as the game's action director. Tanigaki has collaborated with Yen on more than a dozen projects over the past 30 years. The developer expressed gratitude to Yen and his stunt team for bringing authentic kung fu to the game.
