id Software has announced that its first-person shooter Doom: The Dark Ages will receive a new free update next month for its Revelations DLC, introducing an endless single-player mode called "Slaughter Mode."
This new mode was revealed during a Slayers Club Live livestream with Doom: The Dark Ages game director Hugo Martin. Slaughter Mode will feature players battling through increasingly difficult waves of demons across multiple arenas. The objective will be to achieve a high score and round count, with players earning cosmetics as rewards.
While a specific release date for the Slaughter Mode update has not yet been provided, id Software confirmed it will be a free addition for all players. The developer also noted that this update arrives despite recent layoffs that affected the studio earlier this year. Co-founders John Romero and John Carmack had previously commented on the staff reductions.
