Double Fine has teased the possibility of a Brutal Legend 2, nearly two decades after the original game's release. However, this potential sequel is contingent on an exceptionally ambitious fundraising goal of $100 million set for its new Kickstarter campaign, "Amnesia Fortnight 2026, Indie Reboot."

The developer recently regained its independence from Xbox ownership. As part of its re-emergence, Double Fine has launched a Kickstarter for a two-week game jam event. This event aims to produce a retail-ready game and a behind-the-scenes documentary, with backers able to vote on which of the four initial game jam ideas will be developed further into a small, published title under the Double Fine Action Labs label.

Among the stretch goals listed on the campaign page, the second goal, set at the formidable $100 million mark, states: "We make Brütal Legend 2. Yes, really."

Achieving such a sum on Kickstarter would be an unprecedented feat. The most successful Kickstarter campaign to date, for a 3D printer, raised $46 million, while the highest-funded video game on the platform, Shenmue 3, garnered $6 million. In comparison, the "Amnesia Fortnight 2026" campaign has currently raised over £236,000 of its initial £295,399 goal.

Double Fine has a history of originating games from its game jam projects, with titles like Costume Quest and Iron Brigade having started as prototypes developed during similar events. The "Amnesia Fortnight" tradition dates back to 2007, serving as a period where the studio explores unconventional game ideas.
