Double Fine has launched its latest Amnesia Fortnight Kickstarter, a recurring event where the studio dedicates two weeks to developing game prototypes. Among the ambitious stretch goals is a $100 million objective to fund the development of Brutal Legend 2.

While the $100 million target for Brutal Legend 2 is understood to be a jest, reflecting the studio's characteristic cheekiness, the Kickstarter itself offers tangible rewards. Participants gain voting rights on a range of prototypes developed during the Amnesia Fortnight. The process involves an initial selection from 30-second pitches, followed by a head-to-head vote among four finalists, with the ultimate winner greenlit for full development into a smaller game. Notable prototype pitches include 'Emergency Foley Artist,' a party game in the style of Jackbox, and 'Uprise,' a kite-flying racing game against alien invaders.

Amnesia Fortnight has a history of birthing successful titles, with games such as Costume Quest and the Psychonauts 2 brain world 'Compton's Cook-off' originating from this event. The studio also plans to produce a documentary chronicling the development process, which is expected to offer insights into the studio's operations following their departure from Microsoft ownership and subsequent layoffs.

The Kickstarter campaign aims to support the creative process behind Amnesia Fortnight, providing fans with a direct say in which projects move forward. The event has consistently been a fertile ground for innovative game ideas, and this iteration continues that tradition with a playful nod to fan-favorite potential sequels.
