Double Fine has revived its renowned Amnesia Fortnight game jam, marking a return for the in-house development event that allows employees to spend two weeks creating prototypes for new game ideas. The 2026 edition launched a Kickstarter campaign on August 31, which quickly surpassed its initial $400,000 funding goal. This initiative not only provides financial support for Double Fine but also allows backers to influence which of the 26 presented game concepts will be developed further.

Backers can cast votes for their preferred prototypes, with pledge tiers determining voting influence. A $15 pledge grants half a vote, while a $30 pledge provides a full vote. Higher tiers, such as $60, double a single vote. The voting period will conclude on September 6, immediately after PAX. Following this, the Amnesia Fortnight game jam will commence over the next two weeks, during which the top four selected prototypes will be developed into playable demos. These demos will then be presented to the public for a final round of voting.

The overall Kickstarter campaign concludes on September 30, after which the winning concept will be revealed. If the chosen prototype proves successful, it may be expanded into a full game. Historically, Amnesia Fortnight has been the birthplace of several Double Fine titles, including Costume Quest, Iron Brigade, and Stacking, as well as a level in Psychonauts 2.

Among the 26 pitches featured are "Fermi's Playground," an experimental simulation game where players can alter the laws of nature to observe galactic evolution; "Insolation," a survival game placing players in a spider-bot traversing a desolate planet to protect the last plant species; "Lucid Gardening," a title focused on cultivating supernatural flora and fauna; "Virtual Pet Manifesto," a social idle game centered on cooperative pet care and virtual world-building; and "Lesbian Sled Death," a four-player, jet-powered racing game. Video demonstrations for these and other pitches are available on the Kickstarter page.

A significant, albeit highly ambitious, stretch goal has been set: if the campaign reaches $100 million, Double Fine has pledged to develop Brütal Legend 2. Given that the most funded video game project on Kickstarter historically reached $6.3 million, this particular goal presents a substantial challenge. Double Fine has indicated that further stretch goals may be considered if circumstances allow.
