Double Fine has released its adventure game Keeper on PlayStation 5, a move that follows weeks after the studio's relationship with Xbox concluded. The game, which features a lighthouse and a bird, was critically praised upon its debut on Xbox Series X/S and PC last year but did not achieve widespread popularity. This launch on PlayStation marks the second time Double Fine has brought a title to the platform during its period of Xbox ownership, though the speed of this release is particularly noteworthy.
The announcement and subsequent release were part of Sony's recent State of Play showcase, a platform that Double Fine likely would not have utilized in the same manner had the studio remained under Microsoft's purview. IGN awarded Keeper a 9/10 in its review, describing the experience as "a feast for the senses, with every detail from its propulsive score to its Seussian flora and fauna pulling me deeper into its tale."
This release comes shortly after Double Fine initiated a new Kickstarter campaign to secure its financial future, with a highly ambitious pledge to develop Brütal Legend 2 if the campaign reaches $100 million. Players can now find Keeper on PlayStation 5.
