A new total conversion mod for Crusader Kings 3, titled Dragon Age: Thedas at War, aims to keep the spirit of BioWare's Dragon Age RPG series alive. Released as part of a fan-run Paradox modathon, the mod overhauls the grand strategy game with characters, cultures, and conflicts inspired by the Dragon Age universe.
Players can engage in kingdom-battling within Thedas, the world of Dragon Age, rather than historical European realms. The mod's introduction places players ten years after the Second Blight, with simmering tensions and the threat of war. Scenarios include playing as Hassandriel of the Dales defending against Orlais, Teyrn Caedmon uniting Ferelden, or navigating the intricate politics within Orlais itself.
Dragon Age: Thedas at War introduces 40 playable cultures unique to the Dragon Age setting, several in-universe religions, and the ability to play as a mage. Mage characters can cast destructive spells or provide healing, though their availability is currently limited to those outside of a Circle. The mod also features a "Mega Wars system" designed to involve lesser vassals in large-scale, realm-wide conflicts, allowing them to influence outcomes and face consequences.
To play Thedas at War, players will need the base version of Crusader Kings 3. The Roads to Power and Royal Court DLCs are recommended for those wishing to play as landless adventurers. The modders note that multiplayer stability is not guaranteed. The development team plans to continue adding content to the mod in phases, focusing on significant additions with each update.
