Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Surprise Update

Bandai Namco is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 with a surprise update that began rolling out this week. The new content arrives as players anticipate the series' upcoming third entry.

The publisher detailed the anniversary festivities, split between two main releases on October 27 and October 30, on its official website. These updates are available to all players who own Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X/S, platforms it has been available on since its original launch on October 25, 2016.

The first free update, which launched on Tuesday, introduced login bonus rewards, special costumes, and an update to the Gallery of Time for the Future Saga Chapter 4 DLC. The "Final Festival of Universes" celebration commenced on Friday, offering rare items and unlocking rewards related to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3.

"During the Final Festival of Universes, you will be able to raise your camaraderie level with characters who have accompanied you on your journey, choosing between Trunks, The Supreme Kai of Time, or Fu," an official description explains. "Doing so will unlock special illustrations. In addition, hard-to-obtain items will be coming back, and you will be able to earn 25 times more Star Coins than usual, making it easier than ever to exchange them for rewards."

This anniversary event appears to serve as Bandai Namco's send-off for the sequel, coinciding with the impending release of its successor. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 was re-revealed for PC and consoles in April, with an initial broad release window of 2027. However, recent updates have narrowed this window, pushing the release into 2028. Producer Masayuki Hirano cited a desire to "fully realize our ambitions for both the launch experience and the content we plan to operate and support afterward" for the slight delay.

The ongoing Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 anniversary events should provide a welcome distraction for fans awaiting the next title. IGN's original review of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 in 2016 awarded it a 7.5/10, describing it as "an ambitious, if rough-edged experience, with deceptively deep RPG and brawling elements."
