Bandai Namco and developer Dimps have announced an updated release window for the upcoming action-RPG, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, shifting its launch to the latter half of 2027. This decision appears to be a direct response to significant fan feedback regarding several aspects of the game, including controversial changes to Super Saiyan transformations and general presentation.
Fan Dissatisfaction with Gameplay and Presentation
Initial gameplay reveals for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 sparked considerable debate among the fanbase. A key point of contention was the introduction of time-limited Super Saiyan transformations, a departure from the previous games where these power-ups lasted for the duration of a level. Early footage indicated these transformations would last only one minute, a change many fans felt undermined the power fantasy central to the Dragon Ball series. Players voiced their disappointment on social media, with one Reddit user expressing hope that persistent community feedback would prompt a reversal of this design choice.
Beyond the transformation mechanic, players also raised concerns about the game's user interface and overall visual quality. Reports from content creators who previewed the game also highlighted severe connection issues, leading many to believe that Xenoverse 3 was not yet ready for release.
Developer Response and Revised Release Window
In response to the feedback, Masayuki Hirano, producer for Xenoverse 3, issued a statement acknowledging the community's input. "Based on the feedback and survey results we have gathered, we have already held discussions with the development team and announced certain areas where we intend to make improvements in response," Hirano stated. While he did not specifically mention changes to Super Saiyan transformations, it is implied that these player concerns are being addressed.
Hirano further explained the decision to adjust the release schedule. "Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a series that we build together with the players through launch, and throughout its post launch life as well. To fully realize our ambitions for both the launch experience and the content we plan to operate and support afterward, the release window is currently set for the latter half of 2027."
This revised window, while not explicitly called a delay, indicates a commitment to allowing more development time for polish and refinement. Notably, the majority of the fanbase has reacted positively to this news, viewing the extended development period as an opportunity for the developers to implement desired changes and ensure a higher quality launch product. Hirano cautioned that updates might become less frequent as development progresses, but reiterated the team's dedication to making 2027 a significant year for Dragon Ball game enthusiasts.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is planned for release on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
