Dragon's Dogma 2 Dark Arisen DLC Won't Add New Vocations, Developers Confirm

Dragon's Dogma 2 is set to receive a substantial update with the Dark Arisen DLC, introducing a new zone and numerous quality-of-life improvements. While many anticipated the addition of new vocations alongside these significant changes, developers have confirmed that no new classes will be included.

Instead of introducing new vocations, Capcom's approach for the Dark Arisen expansion is to deepen the strategic possibilities of the game's existing classes. "We felt that giving everyone almost the feeling like every vocation feels new or feels fresh was a better way to expand the game rather than simply adding on extra vocations which not everyone may be interested in trying out," explained director Kento Kinoshita in a recent interview. This suggests that players may find renewed engagement with the current roster of starting, advanced, and hybrid vocations.

Dragon's Dogma 2 features several vocations, including the Fighter, Archer, Thief, and Mage as starting options. Advanced vocations such as Warrior and Sorcerer, alongside hybrid classes like Mystic Spearhand, Magick Archer, Trickster, and Warfarer, offer diverse playstyles. Players can change their vocation at a Vocation Guild.

The Dark Arisen DLC, launching on October 9, is the largest update the fantasy RPG has ever seen. It will include a new, icy region named Norgan, which becomes accessible after players reach Vernworth. The developers recommend players be around level 40 before venturing into Norgan due to its challenging new enemies and environmental hazards like rolling blizzards.

In addition to the new region, the DLC incorporates 12 new Lost Rites, which are challenge dungeons situated in Norgan and the existing world. These dungeons are designed to offer increased difficulty in exchange for rare gear and upgradable weapons. For players seeking an even greater challenge, a new Hard Mode will also be available within the expansion.

The Dark Arisen DLC also adds a new campaign story where players ally with a character named Eir to pursue a mysterious entity called the Fallen Dragon. This new storyline is estimated to take approximately 15–20 hours to complete, though completion time may vary depending on player engagement with side quests and exploration.

The Dark Arisen DLC will be available for $29.99 for the expansion alone, with a bundle including the base game and expansion priced at $49.99. It will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
