Dragon's Dogma 2 is set to receive its Dark Arisen expansion in October, introducing a new northern region designed for high-level players. This expansion will feature fresh story content and a randomized, repeatable loot chase. Accompanying the new region, the base game will also gain 12 new "Last Rites" dungeons. These dungeons are intended to provide significant gear and experience, allowing lower-level characters to catch up to expansion-level content.
Enhanced Pawn Interactions
Beyond the new environments and challenges, a significant focus of the Dark Arisen expansion is enhancing the player's relationship with their Pawns. Director Kento Kinoshita stated that the joy of traveling with Pawns is central to the series' identity, and this expansion aims to deepen the cooperative experience. Title Update 3.2, scheduled for release at the end of August, will introduce new Pawn actions. These include Pawns blocking attacks directed at the Arisen and assisting with climbing large enemies. The update will also bring new commands for exploration and the highly anticipated high-five gesture, alongside further refinements to Pawn behavior and AI.
The ability to high-five a Pawn, a seemingly small addition, is highlighted as a particularly appealing feature. It addresses a long-standing desire among players for more direct positive interaction with their AI companions, which are described as a core element of the Dragon's Dogma experience. While a prompted high-five may not replicate the spontaneity of a player-initiated one, it offers a means to acknowledge and reciprocate the camaraderie with these integral adventuring partners.
Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is slated to launch on Steam on October 8.
